Congratulations on attaining the rank of Eagle!
The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR)
strongly supports the Eagle Scout Program and the Boy Scout movement and wishes
to honor your achievement by means of a Certificate of Recognition, which is
either enclosed or will be provided to you later at a suitable ceremony.
The SAR also wishes to invite you to participation in our national
competition with others who obtained the Eagle rank.
Please
read the enclosed materials for further details.
To enter the competition, you will need to complete the enclosed application
form reporting your activities in Scouting, the enclosed four-generation genealogy
chart
and write a 500-word essay on a Revolutionary War theme. Mail all of this
material to me no later than December 1st .
In evaluating your
material, special consideration will be given to those Eagles who have earned
the American Heritage, Law and Genealogy merit badges – although they are not
required for entry.
All Eagles who enter the competition will receive the special Eagle Scholarship
patch whether they win or not. Further
awards will be given at the local chapter, state and national levels.
The local winner will receive a cash prize of $200 and the SAR Eagle
Scout Medal and have his papers automatically entered in the state competition.
State level winners will receive either a $1,000 (1st place),
$500 (2nd place), or $250 (3rd place) savings bond and a
bronze desk-top Eagle trophy, and the state winner will have his papers
automatically entered in the national competition for an $8,000 (1st
place), $4,000 (2nd place), or $1,000 (3rd place)
scholarship award.
