                         Q & A About the Eagle Scout Program

Questions & Answers 1.    Who can apply?

       Any Eagle under age 19 in an active troop during the January 1 – December 31 year in which he applies.  He may apply each year.

 2.    What does the Eagle need to do to enter?

       Complete an application on activities in Scouting, complete a four-generation genealogy chart, and write a patriotic theme with bibliography of 500 words or less dealing with the American Revolution. For example, winning themes have been written about important people such as famous general, key battles like the Battle of Trenton, or famous events such as the Boston Tea Party.  One national winner wrote about the Award of Valor (today’s Purple Heart).  Originality is important.  Also, the American Heritage, Genealogy, and Law merit badges are considered in the evaluation, but not required.  The God and Country award and grade-point average in school are also important.

3.    What are the awards?

       Local: Certificate of Recognition and cloth patch, SAR Eagle Scout Medal, and $200 cash to the winner.

State:
Florida Society Bronze Eagle trophy, $1,000, $500 and $250 savings bonds.

National: $8,000, $4,000 and $2,000 scholarships.

4.    When do entries have to be submitted?

       Postmarked on/before December 1st of the year in which applying, and sent to the Chair of the SAR Eagle Scout Committee.
