Executive Committee Meeting Minutes
January 4, 2011
President Gordon Greenwood convened the meeting at 1:05 PM at his home, 4117 NW 33rd Place in the Monterey subdivision. Also present were Committee Members, Vice Pres. Roger Cox; Secretary David Cromer; Past President Bob Reeves; Chaplain Charles Rinek; Member at Large, Ray Davis; and Sergeant at Arms, Raphael Brown. Also present was Compatriot Ron Dailey. This is a total of seven committee members in attendance.
Monthly Meeting: The next monthly meeting will start at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Brown’s Country Buffet, 14423 US Hwy 441 South, Alachua, FL. The program entitled, “Alachua County Cemeteries” will be presented by Jim Powell and Company.
David Cromer reminded that he also mailed a monthly postal card to some 30 members reminding them of the meeting and requesting an RSVP. There was discussion as to the responses to these cards and the value received for the postage of $8.40. It was agreed that David would conduct a survey to determine the members desires as to receiving an additional notice of the meeting. The email will be used for those with an email and US mail will be used for the others.
Potential Speakers: Roger Cox reviewed potential speakers for future meetings. February will be the installation of new officers and April is the ROTC/JROTC Awards Banquet. The possibility of a speaker on “gun laws”, as pertains to home use is, under consideration. Various members made suggestions and comments in regard to future speakers.
Ft. Clarke Middle School Presentation: Ray Davis reported on the presentations that he and his friend, LCOL Dave Elder USA Ret. made to each of five eighth grade history classes on Friday, December 10th.. Ray was dressed in his formal “Revolutionary” uniform and Dave wore a “Ranger” uniform. They explained the background of their uniforms; demonstrated the use of arms of the day and discussed two Tea Parties in Boston.
Ray discussed some of the basics of the Constitution and how it was the foundation of our country. He then described the “Second Revolution”, the War of 1812.
Ray concluded his report with comments of student enthused reception, and the willingness of him and Elder to do more of these events.
BROADSIDES: Webmaster Brown reported that a February edition looked feasible. He has material removed from the last issue (space constraints), but he needs more material. The minutes of Executive Committee meeting in January and the minutes of the General meeting in January will be available for use. David commented that he has a book report on a George Washington biography to use since February is GW’s birthday month. It was concluded that all members involved with Broadsides should maximize efforts to produce a February issue.
Webmaster: Webmaster Raphael Brown reported that the plan to enable certain members “password” access to the website in order to post updates, is not feasible with the current “site host”. The present agreement with DreamHost expires in April. A two year renewal is approximately $200. Brown and Ron Dailey each commented on the possibility of using another “site host”. A lengthy discussion followed without significant results. An “ad hoc” committee of Brown, Dailey, Cromer, and Davis was appointed to review the situation and report back.
Treasurer’s Report: David Cromer presented the Treasurer’s Report for December 2010. The EOM bank balance is $ 5,116.87. There is a liability totaling $ 75.00. This leaves a balance of $5,041.87 available for use.
The Treasurer also reported on the status of dues collected. We collected a total of $3,330 in dues, including $190 in donations. Five members were dropped for lack of payment. The President will send to letter to these members expressing our regret at their loss and advising them how to become reinstated.
During the course of the review of the Treasurer’s Report, it became apparent that the distribution of total receipts was not accurate. The Treasurer promised to review the postings and submit an Amended Report if necessary. (Note: An amended report was emailed to the Committee January 5.)
Nominating Committee: Ray Davis reported that Ron Dailey has been nominated for 1st VP and that Ray Davis has been nominated for 2nd VP.
Executive Committee meeting: The next meeting will be Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Gordon Greenwood’s home, 4117 NW 33rd Place, Gainesville, FL 32606.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:40 PM.
.Respectfully Submitted
D. W. Cromer Secretary
