Veterans Programs

We're launching our Chapter Veterans Committee Programs!

Here's how you individually can help; just keep a record of the following or email me after each event (points in parentheses):

1.  If you are appointed to a local Veterans Council [25]
2.  Each hour served in the VA Volunteer Services [VAVS} [10]
3.  For each hour a SAR member spends visiting a veteran [in a VA Hospital, any nursing home or HIS HOME [5].
4. For each mile travelled to/from a VA Hospital, any nursing home or HIS HOME if he/she is confined [1].
5. For each patched or crocheted lap robe made and donated to a veteran in a VA hospital or nursing home [10].
6. For each gift donated to a veteran in VA hospital or nursing home [toilet articles, clothing, cards, books, magzines,etc.] [1].
7.For each pair of crutch pads, ditty bag or x-ray chart holder made and donated to a veteran in a VA hospital [5].
8.  For each dollar donated to VAVS for coupon books. [1]
9.For each publication donated to a VA library, reading room or equivalent [1] [one 12 month subscription = 12 points].
10.  For each special observance attended in cooperation with a Veterans organization attending [10].
11.  Used/new clothing donated; send list of items marked used or new [if new list price].
12.  Two SAR members visit to a hospital, assisted living facility or nursing home to a veteran [15]; additional 5 points if in period dress]  Limit 2 per year per member.

Other Chapter Challenge point getters [we were #3 out of 4 in our NE region in 2007; we can/should do better]:
There are other events/items

1. Present Allegiance Sunday presentation at your church [in period dress or blaze & slacks]. [10]  Limit 2/yr per member.

2.  Give SAR Promotional Talks to potential member groups of 10 or more.[10]

3.  Chapter Member, invited as Guest Speaker to another group, where not a member, and speaking on non-SAR topic. [10].

4. Members marching/riding in a parade [5 per event +1 per ea. participant.

5. Participation at Veterans Funeral [reading, pall bearer, etc. [10] attendance [5].

6. Participation in a Naturalization Ceremony [1].

The Chapter will also be sponsoring group activities;

1. Collection of books, magazines, toilet articles, clothing, etc at monthly meetings.

2.  Collection of "Coins for Veterans" to purchase items for VA veterans.
